Beating Anxiety: 2 Ways of Managing Anxiety

If you are experiencing anxiety, you may be looking for information on how best you can reduce and minimise the amount of anxiety you feel. Thankfully, there is a range of things you can do which will help you to manage your anxiety so you can get on with your life. Read on to discover more about two things which might help you.

Counselling

Anxiety can be caused by traumatic events which have happened to you in the past or current ongoing stress. Counselling is a great way of working through difficult memories and emotions in a safe and controlled way. Your counsellor will be a professionally trained person who will actively listen to what you are saying and then reflect it back to you without making any form of judgement. This allows you to express yourself while also providing you with the opportunity to process your thoughts and feelings in a more objective way.

During the first session of counselling, the therapist will ask you about your life to they can gain an understanding of who you are and which areas of your life may be triggering anxiety. You will then both work together to develop a goal which you will work towards throughout the counselling sessions. Contact an anxiety counselling service for more information.

MIndfulness

Mindfulness is the act of taking notice of your surroundings and grounding yourself in the moment. When we experience anxiety, it is very easy for our brains to get caught up in a damaging loop of thoughts. These thoughts often take us away from the current moment and lead to us ruminating about the past or the future. By practising mindfulness, you can teach yourself to reconnect with the present moment which can help you to put a stop to a chain of anxious thoughts which are appearing in your mind. If you want to try out mindfulness, do the following simple exercise.

  1. Close your eyes.
  2. Focus on your breathing and slowly count to five as you take the next few breaths.
  3. Open your eyes and focus on each of your senses. What can you hear? What can you smell? What can you see?

There are many other mindfulness techniques you can try and lots of free info on the internet.
